The Swiss-born mathematician Leonard Euler (1707-1783) published hundreds of papers on various mathematical, physical, social and economic topics. One of his many groundbreaking works, is the mathematical description of rotating bodies. The ‘Euler’s gyroscope equation”’ were named after him, as were the ‘Euler equations’ (a mathematical model for describing flowing fluids), the ‘Euler angles’, the ‘Euler characteristic’, the ‘Euler formula’ and the ‘Euler number’.
